About Me

I am a child of refugees who survived the Khmer Rouge genocide in Cambodia. My younger brother and I were born in a refugee camp in Thailand and in 1985, our family of four immigrated to Canada as refugees and attained our Canadian citizenship a few years later.

In my teens, I struggled with navigating two cultures, like many immigrants. Having limited access to professional role models that looked like me, who understood my story and the nuances of Cambodian Canadian people, I felt lost and angry. But I found joy and community in cultural gatherings, active play, and sports.

Now in my 40s, I've found the deeper connection to my heritage I used to long for. I'm an avid runner and a proponent that any daily physical activity does wonders for your mental health.

I'm passionate about storytelling to uplift communities, preserve culture, and drive meaningful change. To name just a few, I'm open to paid speaking engagements related to:

  • generational storytelling

  • identity and belonging

  • breaking cycles of trauma and survival

  • representation in media

  • building community

  • the power of storytelling

I look forward to connecting!

Why Khmer Voices & My Motto

I started Khmer Voices podcast in October 2024 to celebrate the achievements of the Cambodian diaspora around the world, aiming to close the big gap that has existed since my coming of age years. It evolved to also sharing stories of  resilience, healing, and impact. Current podcast accolades include being recommended by Apple Podcasts twice and ranked among a top podcast for hundreds of listeners.

It has led to meaningful connections within the Cambodian diaspora and the establishment of a non-profit, Cambodan Cultural Centre in May 2025. The organization strives to unite and empower the Cambodian community in Canada and beyond through culture, arts, music, food, and philanthropy.

My motto is “Just Move.” If there’s something you want to do, or you don’t know what you want to do, just move. I embody this motto in every aspect of my life -- a testament that action breeds growth and opportunities.
